| Accident Victims And Health Insurance - Tuesday, November 20, 2007A collision with a semi-trailer truck seven years ago left 52-year-old Deborah Shank permanently brain-damaged and in a wheelchair. Her husband, Jim, and three sons found a small source of solace: a $700,000 accident settlement from the trucking company involved. After legal fees and other expenses, the remaining $417,000 was put in a special trust. It was to be used for Mrs. Shank's care.

Carpey has been recognized for his Volunteer Pro Bono legal work as an attorney representing victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. Mr. Carpey represented two individuals who were seriously injured in the attacks. Thier claims were presented to the Federal Government as part of the Victims Compensation Fund.The program was called "Trial Lawyers Care," and was the largest free legal representation program ever undertaken.
